Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) is a Scottish health charity, caring for and supporting people after stroke, or diagnosis of a chest or heart condition. We offer vital advice and information to people and their families, delivering support services in the community. We believe everyone has the right to live life to the full, so we are committed to influencing public policy to ensure those affected get the services they so badly need. Our ambition is to be Scotland’s leading organisation for community driven support for people with these health conditions.

Lead Stroke Nurse (Grampian)

The role of the Lead Stroke Nurse will be to manage and develop a team of local Stroke Nurses who are responsible for facilitating a smooth transition from hospital back into the community, for people who have had a stroke and their families. The Lead Stroke Nurse will have both a managerial and clinical role in the delivery of the service. The clinical aspect of this role will be community based and involves providing specialist advice and support to people and families who have had a recent stroke or TIA.

Candidates must have a first level nursing qualification, with 4 years post registration experience in a stroke care setting and have evidence of continued professional development, including a full UK driving licence and access to a car. Individuals should also be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, have excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as good leadership skills, with a supportive management style. It is also essential, that candidates have a person centered approach, to support embracing the principles of enabling and empowerment.

CHSS is fortunate to have the support of 1,500 volunteers and we are looking to double this number of volunteers to help us reach more people living with our conditions across Scotland.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of CHSS’s new volunteering and engagement team. You will recruit, select and contribute to the training of new volunteers through community mapping and scoping, raising the profile of our volunteer requirements and working in partnership with internal and external colleagues.

You should have a sound understanding of volunteer recruitment and volunteer management processes. In addition, you should have considerable experience of working with and supervising volunteers, have good organisational and communication skills and have experience of managing volunteer recruitment campaigns. A current driving licence and the use of a car for work are essential. These posts will be subject to member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme.
