Team Manager

We need a team manager for an established team in the Edinburgh area.

This opportunity would suit a team manager who has previous experience leading a team, preferably a support service one, or an assistant team manager who is ready to take on greater responsibility.

The purpose of the role of team manager is to provide leadership and guidance to our teams of support workers who provide person-centred support to adults with learning disabilities and other support needs, working in service users home or accompanying them when they go out.

The team manager has overall responsibility for team management, staff performance and quality of service standards within the team. This vacancy is in a well-established team and some of the service users have been supported by The Action Group for many years. The right candidate will be someone who can approach these types of relationships with understanding and who embodies the Action Group’s values of inclusion and opportunity for all.

Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to juggle conflicting priorities are essential, and your attention to detail will be second to none. You will work closely with the Development Managers to ensure a consistent and high quality service delivery; and lead by example to maintain a positive and empowering ethos within the team.

Some of the essential criteria for this role are:

· Previous experience of staff management, ideally from within the social care sector

· At least two years’ experience of providing person-centred services to individuals who have support needs

· An SVQ 2 in Social Care or equivalent qualification

· The capacity to complete a SVQ 3 in Social Care within 12 months of taking the post

The Action Group is looking for a full-time Development Manager who can use their experience of leadership in the social care sector to promote and develop our services, specifically focusing on communication and wellbeing.

Do you have a proven track record of managing services, involving service users and working with different departments and organisations? Are you ready for a new challenge?

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manager with a passion for improving communication to contribute to the Action Group’s services, strategies and policies. We are looking for someone who will promote wellbeing for people who use our services and for our staff, and who will take the lead in embedding positive behaviour support across the organisation.

The purpose is to empower people through practical support so that they may live as independently as possible, and support workers’ tasks will depend on the individual service user’s support needs.

Working in Midlothian

We support younger adults individually as they take steps towards greater independence, such as living in their own tenancies for the first time. We support our service users in pursuing their goals, and also with practical things such as taking care of themselves and their homes. We tailor the support we provide according to the service user’s needs, so the job can include accompanying service users on outings or going shopping and also lending a hand with keeping track of money, medication and schedules. You will work with service users in the community and with families to support service users to have fun and take part in activities. You need to be energetic, creative and have great attention to detail.

Our youth group is for children and young adults with additional support needs to help them lead fulfilling, included lives through having fun, being an active part of the community and experiencing new things. The role may involve outdoor or indoor sports, arts and crafts and organising events and transport. You must have an understanding and interest in young people and their needs and an enthusiastic and positive approach to working with them.

Our team in East Lothian supports younger people taking steps towards greater independence such as moving into their own tenancies. Typical activities on support include assisting with household chores, cooking, assisting with finances, completing paperwork, encouraging hobbies and interests, medication administration and providing personal care. The people who use our services want support workers who are friendly and can help them pursue their goals and live fulfilling lives.

This role requires driving, and it would also be an advantage to have your own transport. You would be able to claim mileage on qualifying journeys.

Shifts are varied and include day shifts, early mornings, evenings, weekend shifts and sleepovers, and may include providing support to service users in various parts of East Lothian, but we aim to have people work in their local communities where possible. Full-time, part-time and casual positions are available.

No experience or formal qualifications are necessary as paid training is provided, but some experience of providing care or support would be an advantage.

*The hours available for this role would be in the evenings Monday to Thursday between 4 and 9pm. Fridays from 1pm-9pm and Saturdays and Sundays all days.

“I am a young woman living in my own flat in Armadale. My staff support me with my day to day activities, to maintain my home and do sleepovers with me. I have autism and a learning disability. I need staff who are able to work with me when my emotions can become overwhelming for me, who can drive my car for me and who are able to work at all times of the day, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and sleepovers. You will be part of a fantastic team supporting our service users to live independently, both at home and out and about in Armadale. You will have the desire and ability to build and maintain good relationships; and have an organised, collaborative and flexible approach to providing the best support possible. A positive, can-do attitude is essential; and resilience and determination are also desirable key skills.

Knowledge and experience of the emotional and practical difficulties faced by our service users is desirable, along with your creative in your approach to problem solving.
