Charity registered in Scotland SC028544
Edinburgh College Students’ Association represents the 27,000 students of Edinburgh College: with college management, the Scottish Government and as part of the National Union of Students (NUS).
Here at EC Students' Association, we are now recruiting for three new External Trustees to join our Charity Board. This is a very exciting time to be joining us, as it follows a period of change and a refresh of our Constitution. The External Trustees we appoint will form part of an entirely new Board, and will help with the Students' Association’s strategic development, including shaping and delivering our new strategic plan.
The Board, like everything we do at EC Students’ Association, is led by students, for students. The EC Students’ Association Board of Trustees is Chaired by the President, an elected full-time student officer, and five of the eight seats on the Board are held by students. This includes a mixture of Full-Time Officers, Student Trustees, and 3 External Trustees.
The Board ordinarily meets on a quarterly basis to review performance, ensure good governance, and that we're operating within the law. Our Trustees bring their own perspectives and expertise to the table, with external Trustees offering real-world experience to help guide the charity and inform decision-making.
About ECSA
Edinburgh College Students’ Association (ECSA) is a charity representing over 20,000 students from more than 100 countries attending Edinburgh College. As a key partner of the Edinburgh College community, ECSA works to represent and support students across the 4 campuses to ensure every student has the best possible student experience.
Powered by students
The Association is made up of the thousands of students from Edinburgh College, across every campus, every course, and at every level within the institution. The constant cycle of new members is what powers us as an organisation and your engagement in the student experience is what keeps it going.
Driven by values
Our Values underpin everything we do and why we do it:
Committed to Students – we will never let anything distract us from the fact that students always come first for us. Independent from the College, we are led by students, for students, making sure you have a fun, successful and truly ‘ECSA-llent’ student experience.
Supportive – we strive to be welcoming to all students and always there when you need support. Our friendly staff and helpful nature is what makes us approachable and open to all.
Ambitious – Students come to College with one eye on building a better future and we are determined to help you do just that. Our approach to maximising your opportunities requires us to be dynamic and innovative, constantly striving to do more for each and every student.
Trusted – we work hard every day to ensure that we are effective in pursuit of our objectives, running a professional organisation and gaining respect of key stakeholders across the College and beyond.
Respectful – Our membership is wonderfully diverse. We will always celebrate that diversity and challenge any form of inequality on campus, or beyond, because everyone deserves to be treated with respect
Committed to better
Our Association Vision is to create a positive, supportive community which enables every student to achieve their potential
ECSA is seeking to recruit someone with the knowledge and enthusiasm to help empower our members to work collaboratively in order to make positive changes to the student experience at Edinburgh College, whilst constantly evidencing the impact of our actions.
What we can offer you
Working as part of a small, dynamic, student-facing team, and reporting to the Association Director, you will be responsible for the development and administration of a range of student-facing projects and services aimed at helping our students feel part of the Edinburgh College community.
This role will have a real focus on in-person, on-campus, student experiences after 2 years of very little on-campus activity. Through these projects, you will help students with the transition back to more in-person events and activities, looking to support their general wellbeing and sense of belonging.
The post holder will supervise and co-ordinate a group of part-time student staff spread across all 4 campuses in the delivery of projects such as the Free Breakfast Club, Community Fridge project, Clothing Swapshops, and other pop-up events that aim to help make students’ lives better.
As a new, fixed term post, you will have the freedom to help mould and develop current and new projects and activities, working alongside our elected Full-Time Officers (FTOs) and permanent staff team to make ideas a reality, and really impact on the student experience at Edinburgh College. You will also attend and work with various committees and working groups at the College, working with staff at all levels and learning more about the way in which we work.
Beyond the services and projects that we currently run, the post-holder will help develop new events and activities, specifically focussed on student wellbeing, particularly reaching out to those students who feel least engaged with College life. This may include working on equality & diversity activities (e.g. LGBT, women’s group, black students, etc.) or it may be looking at different types of student groups such as apprentices, part-time students, or student parents.
We have great benefits at Edinburgh College, with generous annual leave, a career average pension scheme and access to other benefits like childcare vouchers and cycle to work. We also have great on-site facilities including a gym, pool, training restaurants, shops and canteens. Plus, you get to be part of a unique organisation which contributes to improving the lives of others.
