Safe in Scotland

Charity registered in Scotland SC047169

Safe in Scotland provides dignified accommodation and trauma-informed support for people experiencing asylum-related destitution. We are the main provider of emergency and temporary accommodation in Scotland and have been preventing homelessness in this community since 2011. Glasgow is the UK’s biggest asylum dispersal area and it has been a hugely welcoming city. Unfortunately, the simple truth is that there isn't enough accommodation and what there is doesn't meet the needs of those who need it. At any given time we estimate that there are about 200 people in need of accommodation, stripped of their dignity, and forced into rough sleeping and other survival decisions.

Safe in Scotland—formerly Glasgow Night Shelter for Destitute Asylum Seekers—has been preventing homelessness among asylum seekers since 2011. We accommodate and support over a hundred people each year, all of whom would otherwise be forced into rough sleeping and other survival decisions and we are Scotland’s main provider of emergency and temporary accommodation to our community. Our approach is to combine a safe, private and dignified place to stay with trauma-informed support so that people can make informed decisions and access their rights. We do this because UK government immigration policy deliberately makes some people unable to access support through homelessness services.

About You

We need dynamic, creative and reliable team members to provide the best possible service. You’ll show compassion and empathy, with some experience of working with people affected by homelessness or in a social care setting and, although it’s not essential, an understanding of the experiences of those affected by the asylum process in the UK would be really helpful.

We’re looking for people who know how to safely maintain boundaries but who get stuck into their workload. We want to hear from people who work in a person-centred way and focus on maximising personal choice.

We are keen on creative thinking, new ideas and what life has taught you, as well as professional experience.
