We need a flexible and experienced organisational administrator to join our team, working closely with the Projects Manager and Chief Executive to meet the administrative needs of the organisation.

A can do attitude, with an ability to work independently and creatively to find solutions is a must. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential as is a comprehensive understanding and efficient use of all Microsoft programmes.

You will be joining a team of staff and volunteers who are dedicated to delivering services that help meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society and who use their knowledge and expertise to campaign for change and social justice. As an administrator, you will provide essential support in enabling us to carry out these activities.

Citizens Advice Edinburgh deal with 3,000 enquiries per year from employees seeking advice about whether there employment rights are being upheld in the workplace. We have a 90% plus engagement rate with Employers in these cases, helping to educate and negotiate changes that ensure those employees rights are upheld and that they maintain fairwork. In 2018 Citizens Advice Edinburgh received funding from the Scottish Government, Via Citizens Advice Scotland’s Development Fund, to introduce our Improving Employment Practice Service, aimed at delivering on the Scottish Governments Fair Work Framework.

To do this, we are seeking to recruit someone with a solid background in HR advice. You will oversee our service and move CAE from a passive engagement with employers, to taking a more proactive approach in sharing our HR knowledge and expertise to help them meet their responsibilities and uphold their rights as a key stakeholder in fair work landscape.

Successful candidates need to have experience in designing and delivering training and coaching, as this role will include engaging employers in practical training and advice workshops and supporting a team of volunteer advisers.

Successful candidates will also require a solid background in HR, specifically in the area of employee relations and be experienced at dealing with conflict. You will be responsible for offering support to our team of Employment Specialist Advisers and in dealing with a small number of more complex employment related cases.

Financial Health – Dedicated Adviser

A unique opportunity has arisen to join the team at Citizens Advice Edinburgh (CAE) and help us deliver on a new and exciting project aimed at improving the financial health and income maximisation of people across Scotland.

This project is being delivered with funding from Citizens Advice Scotland’s in partnership with the Scottish Government.

The Financial Health Check Dedicated Adviser must a solid background in welfare rights, debt and money advice and have experience of dealing with complex cases, including a knowledge and understanding of budgeting and sources of income maximisation.

As this is a new service, the Financial Health Check Adviser must also have knowledge and skills in designing and delivering new services and for training and coaching of others, as this role will include engaging staff, volunteers, partner organisations, elected members and the public in understanding and accessing the service and practical training and advice workshops to increase capacity.

Every year Citizens Advice Edinburgh supports over 13,000 people seeking advice and support in relation to their financial circumstances. With our advice, we help clients achieve in excess of £3 million pounds per year in financial gain, through improved budgeting, managing problematic debt and income maximisation.

This new project will extend that service, by offering clients the option of accessing support by phone and online. You will work as part of a team delivering services to people throughout Scotland and supporting them as fully as possible through the channel of their choice.

Citizens Advice Edinburgh is an independent charity delivering free, confidential and impartial advice and support to people living and working in Edinburgh. Every year, we deal with over 25,000 enquiries for advice, from over 13,000 individual clients. Around 75% of that relates primarily to Welfare Rights and Income Maximisation.

Pension Wise Guidance Specialist

Understanding what to do with your pension and how to get the most out of it can be one of the biggest decisions someone can make. More often than not, the people coming to Citizens Advice in relation to their pension are overwhelmed by the language and choice of options. Many people have also lost track of what pensions they have been paying into and the opportunities they could provide.

The UK Government has therefore funded Citizens Advice to provide the fee and impartial Pensionwise Service, providing guidance to people about their defined contribution pension options.

As a result of continued demand, the UK Government has sought to extend this service, so that we can provide increased support and reach even more people. This has included the development of telephone and online advice and an expansion in the number of face to face Guidance Specialists. Citizens Advice Edinburgh are seeking to recruit an adviser to expand their face to face service in Edinburgh.

Successful candidates will have a solid background and proven knowledge of pensions law and practice and a thorough knowledge of pension products. You will have excellent communications skills and an understanding and sensitivity to wider retirement issues. You will be able to work in a variety of environments with a range of stakeholders and bring a flexible and creative approach to developing the service to meet the needs of people across Edinburgh.

Welfare Rights Specialist (Universal Credit - Help to Claim)

Universal Credit was launched in Edinburgh in November 2018 and is one of the biggest Welfare Reforms, since the introduction of Personal Independence Payments. This change will affect thousands of residents in Edinburgh.

In October 2018 the UK Government announced that it would provide funding to the Citizens Advice Network to enable us to support people in our local communities through the process of claiming and transitioning onto Universal Credit. Bureau Manager

A unique opportunity has arisen to become a Bureau Manager with Citizens Advice Edinburgh. These roles do not often present themselves, which is testament to the quality and job satisfaction of the role.

You will be joining an experienced team of 4 existing bureau managers and take on responsibility for the day to day management of our new premises in the Pilton and Muirhouse area of Edinburgh. You will also take on responsibility for managing our existing team of 20 volunteers and for the growth and expansion of volunteer base and service offering in that community. Your bureau will cover some of the poorest and most deprived communities in Edinburgh, but this is also a locality rich in culture and full of potential.

This role offers the unique opportunity to become part of the established and highly respected Citizen’s Advice Service in Edinburgh with the chance to design and develop a service in new and expanded premises, right in the heart of the community. Over the last 6 months we have been working with other local charities to form a co-location partnership that will see at least 3 charities working together to utilise the vacant Pennywell Resource Centre and create a vibrant and much needed community resource.

Successful candidates will have extensive knowledge and expertise of the advice sector, particularly in relation to Welfare Rights, Debt and Money Advice, Employment, Immigration and Housing. Previous experience in managing and supporting volunteers will also be desirable.

You will have highly effective communication skills and be confident to work independently in a management role. You will have excellent written skills and be confident in Microsoft. You will have experience in recruitment, selection and supervision of staff and volunteers and experience or a proven ability to train and coach others to learn new skills. You will be flexible and able to support the development of this service with creativity and new ideas.

Money Advice Worker

Successful candidates will have a solid background in Human Resources and/or Employability Services, have a sound knowledge of Employment Law and have experience of dealing with complex employment relations cases.

Citizens Advice Edinburgh is an independent charity delivering free, confidential and impartial advice and support to people living and working in Edinburgh. Every year, we deal with over 3,000 enquiries for employment advice, handling cases including unpaid wages, unfair dismissal, TUPE, irregular contracts and discrimination. Over the last 5 years, we have established ourselves as a quality advice service for employees, helping them to understand and defend their rights.

The Fair work Framework was published in March 2016 and this new post will be responsible for helping Citizens Advice Edinburgh to play a key role in delivering its successful outcomes.

This post is part time 28 hours per week and will be based primarily at our Leith Bureau, with travel throughout the city as required. This role will be ideally suited to someone with an extensive background in HR, Employment Advice and/or a legal qualification with experience in Employment law.
