Online - Introduction to project management

This course will help you to understand the components of project stages and lifecycles. It will provide an understanding of project methodologies and their application, teaching you how to develop a project plan, identify/mitigate risks and construct a strategy for monitoring/review. You will leave with an understanding of the following areas and the tools required to:

  1. Define the stages of a project and develop an understanding of a project lifecycle from conception to commissioning/hand over. Using this knowledge, assess where projects fit into operational activities.
  2. Develop the ability to use various approaches and tools to manage a project and understand how to use these to form a business case and engage sponsors. This will include how to create an effective management environment/culture to support projects and identification of effective communication methods for each shareholder.
  3. Design a project plan to achieve a specified objective. This will include financial components such as risk appraisal for effective project design and control as well as a monitoring and review strategy for a project that assesses impact and achievement.

What’s the big deal with minutes anyway? Minutes are a record of what takes place at a meeting and ensures nothing is lost or forgotten - you will learn how totake, prepare and present minutes.

No need to write like the wind and capture every word - minutes don’t have to be verbatim but they have to record certain facts. You will explore what must be recorded: participants, decisions, actions…

Time is precious, so make every second count - think like a Scout and be prepared! The trainer will discuss the meeting cycle and what to prepare before your meeting takes place.

Minutes don’t have to be long, complicated or in fancy language but they need to record clearly and simply...you will examine the most difficultaspects of taking minutes and how best to address them.

Anyone can scribble a rough outline of a meeting, right? Yes, but to take good notes and create minutes that provide an accurate reflection requires a particular set of skills - the trainer will show you!

Emergency first aid at work (SCQF6)

This classroom based courseconsists of practical and theoretical activities, andcovers a range of subjects including:

  • responsibilities and reporting
  • resuscitation and AED awareness
  • burns
  • assessment of the situation
  • anatomy
  • choking
  • dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • minor injuries
  • epilepsy
  • basic hygiene in first aid
  • bleeding control
  • shock

The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration of these activities, with oral questionsandset scenarios, which youmust satisfactorily complete to pass the practical assessment.The trainer will instruct,guide and support you throughout the day within an informal setting, and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

You will be provided with an emergency first aid at work e-book and a first aid student pack, which includes bandages and face shields to use during the course.
