• understanding and alleviating the impact of domestic abuse on mothers and children
• undertaking direct work with children, mothers and also fathers who are subject to a Caledonian requirement.

The latter may include direct work with men on a 1:1 basis and involvement in the delivery of group work.

Circle is a Scottish charity working at the heart of deprived communities across central Scotland. Our aim is to support the most disadvantaged children and families to improve their lives, promote their healthy development and reach their potential.

We work alongside families to build confidence and self-esteem, to develop positive relationships within their community, to strengthen their finances and to make important changes to their lifestyle and environment. This work enables and empowers families to overcome challenges including substance use, parental imprisonment, persistent poverty, domestic abuse, poor housing conditions and physical and mental ill-health.

Due to the multiple and complex needs these families have they often struggle to access appropriate and tailored support which can leave them isolated, excluded and stigmatized whilst also experiencing shame and anxiety. Circle therefore aims to deliver a range of beneficiary led outreach services that receive referrals from local health professionals, criminal justice, schools, and community hubs as well as being open to self-referrals. The fact that our support is undertaken voluntarily enables us to build a trusting relationship with families and provide them with help that is non-judgmental or time limited.

Role

This is an interesting time of development and expansion for Circle as we attempt to increase our support to families disproportionally impacted by Covid and the resulting financial climate.

Working under the supervision of an experienced Income Generation and Communications Manager you will maximise income to meet or exceed income targets through the development of excellent local relationships, creating opportunities to give, and positioning Circle as the charity of choice within various local communities. You will also have the opportunity to play a lead role in growing our unique flagship event, The DARED Challenge, whilst also potentially contributing to our successful trust and grants income generation process.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for providing vulnerable families with vital, life changing outreach work. They will have the desire to seek new opportunities and build sustainable relationships with donors while managing event participants and local corporate partnerships. To deliver a positive supporter experience, you will have strong communication skills and be friendly and engaging. You should have the motivation to work independently without close supervision whilst still being able to develop positive internal team relationships. Experience of developing new partnerships, recruiting donors, and working with databases is needed along with event and volunteer management.

This is a unique and varied role that will suit a motivated, adaptable, and proactive individual, who is keen to expand on their current knowledge and skills set to become a more complete fundraiser with experience of succeeding across multiple income streams.

We are a children and families charity working at the heart of communities across central Scotland. Our services support families with children affected by substance use, parental imprisonment, domestic violence, mental health and the wider effects of poverty and structural inequality.

Circle’s approach builds on strengths, is solution focussed and uses a whole family approach to create a family environment that promotes healthy development in children.

To support the next phase of our development we are recruiting additional board members with a wide range of experience and abilities. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have lived experience of the care system, justice, recovery, early years services, or the wider effects of poverty.

Supporting fathers of children affected by parental substance use to minimise the impact on the children

Circle is a Scottish charity providing family support services to some of the most marginalised children and families in Scotland.

Our Harbour Project aims to address the needs of, and reduce the risks faced by families and children affected by parental substance use.

The Fathers’ Worker will provide support to fathers affected by substance use who have care of or contact with their children, or are looking to establish contact, by:

• enabling fathers and male carers to develop their parenting capacity and relationships with their children
• supporting fathers and male carers to address their substance misuse and attendant risks
• working with fathers and male carers to promote a safer lifestyle for the family

Funded by Corra Foundation and the Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership to 31 March 2023

Applicants should possess a qualification in social work, social care, education or health, and have relevant experience.

Circle is a Scottish charity providing family support services to some of the most marginalised children and families in Scotland.

We are looking for a full-time Administrator to join our Admin Team. The individual will play a key role in providing efficient, effective and high-quality administrative, financial and HR support to the whole organisation including project workers, the management team and the Chief Executive.

The successful candidate must be committed, hardworking and highly motivated.

Applicants should have extensive experience of providing administrative support in a busy office environment. Ideally they will be skilled in Microsoft Office 365 (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint), and have experience of using a finance package such as Sage or Xero. Experience of working with a CRM database would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be based in our Head Office in Edinburgh which has been fully risk assessed in line with COVID-19 regulations.

We are looking for two part-time Family Outreach Workers to join our Women’s Outreach Team (WOT) in Lanarkshire.

The WOT service is a partnership between Circle and Addictions Support & Counselling (ASC), delivering a whole family support service for mothers and their families in response to the complex health and social care needs experienced by women affected by domestic abuse, substance use and poor mental health.

The posts are funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and the Charles Hayward Foundation until 31 July 2024.

Working with families affected by parental substance use

Applicants should possess a qualification in social work, social care, education or health, and have relevant experience.

In partnership with Shine Women's Mentoring Service

Families Affected by Imprisonment (FABI)

Delivering mentoring and outreach family support services for women and their families affected by imprisonment.

The service is available to all adult females who are:

• currently serving a custodial sentence in Scotland of less than four years and not subject to a statutory order; or
• on remand; or
• subject to a Community Payback Order

Applicants should have relevant experience working with women and families affected by their involvement in the justice system, or possess a qualification in social work, social care, health or education.

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To work with mothers pre- and post-release from prison, and their children and families, to minimise the impact on the families and to promote positive change
2. To work with families to promote a safer lifestyle
3. To enable parents/carers to develop their parenting capacity and relationships with their children
4. To run individual, family and group work programmes
5. To deliver training on the work of the project to other professionals as per contract expectations or good practice sharing
6. To record, monitor and evaluate all work
7. To attend supervision, team meetings and in-house training sessions as appropriate
8. To liaise with other agencies and work in partnership with them to meet the needs of the children and their families
9. To contribute to the promotion and development of Circle’s work and services
10. To work within Circle’s policies and procedures, most notably in areas of child protection, equal opportunities, anti-discriminatory practice and user participation
11. To attend Staff Development Days
