Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma – the second most common form of blood cancer. It originates in the bone marrow and currently affects around 17,500 people in the UK. Whilst treatable, myeloma is not yet curable. Our ultimate goal is to find a cure. We are dedicated to ensuring that patients get access to the right treatment at the right time, and to improving standards of treatment and care through research, education and awareness raising. We also provide a range of information and support services to patients, family and friends to help deal with a diagnosis of myeloma.

About you

Are you an experienced event organiser looking for a new challenge? Do you want to use your skills to make a real difference to the lives of myeloma patients?

We are looking for someone with event management expertise who has excellent communication and relationship building skills to join the team responsible for delivering our programme of events. You’ll have good negotiation and presentation skills, a focus on detail and the ability to manage a variety of tasks often to tight deadlines.

About the role

The Information Events Coordinator will deliver our information events programme consisting of face-to-face and online events hosted by the team and held throughout the UK, developing the strategy for the programme and implementing event activity with the aim to increase participation and attendance.

You’ll be responsible for the planning, co-ordination and delivery of the events, including marketing and promotion, as well as logistics and resourcing. You’ll be required to attend several weekend events throughout the year so should be able to travel across the UK as needed.

Clinical Practice Administrator

About the role

About the role

Myeloma UK is embarking on an ambitious five-year income generation strategy, which aims to increase income from £5m to £10m by 2028. This position will play a critical role, working alongside the Head of Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships to lead income generation from major trusts, foundations, and grant funders and secure 5-6 figure grants for a range of innovative and life changing programmes – including patient and family support, research and advocacy. This role is also responsible for managing the Trusts and Grants Officer, who delivers our small trusts and grants programme.

Our major trusts and grants programme is at an early stage of development and this role offers the opportunity to build the foundations and significantly grow this income stream. It will involve working across the charity to identify fundraising priorities and co-create projects and will involve all aspects of cultivation – from research to relationship building with key prospects, through to preparing compelling proposals.

About you

We are looking for an ambitious trusts and grants fundraiser with experience of raising 5-6 figure gifts from a range of UK trusts, foundations and grant-making organisations. You will be a strategic thinker, who is ready to lead and implement our trusts and grants strategy alongside the Head of Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships.

Strong relationship management skills are a must, as this role involves working collaboratively with a range of colleagues to identify fundraising projects and develop project concepts and proposals. As Peer Service Coordinator you will facilitate and develop the existing volunteer-led Peer Services, the Peer Buddy service and our discussion forum. These services draw on the lived experiences of volunteers to provide bespoke support to people affected by myeloma and its related conditions.

Our Peer Buddy service matches volunteers with those seeking support to facilitate one-to-one support. Our Discussion Forum uses volunteers to answer questions and share experiences via an online, written platform.

This role manages, supervises and develops volunteers to provide these wellbeing-centred services. It will also involve assessing the suitability of people referring into the Buddy service.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and people-focused person, who understands the power of sharing experiences.

Ideally, we’d like you to have experience of volunteer management, including recruiting, training, managing, and supervising/mentoring a diverse range of people. You will need the ability to understand and meet training and development needs of volunteers.

We take a user involvement focus In service delivery, so experience of working in services which deliver positive outcomes for patients, carers and/or families living with health conditions and involving them in the process would be helpful.

You will need excellent communication skills along with a high level of organisational and IT skills.

Previous experience working in haematology, oncology, clinical research, or healthcare would be helpful, and/or wellbeing and psychological services.

About the role

We are looking for a highly pro-active individual with proven experience of working in a fundraising grants and trusts role, to join our expanding Philanthropy Team within the wider Income Generation directorate.

You will be responsible for researching and maintaining a pipeline of trust, foundation, and pharmaceutical company prospects, writing cases for support and funding applications, developing and stewarding relationships and will work with a range of stakeholders.

You will work with the Senior Trust & Grants Officer on monitoring and reporting on activity and budgets for trusts, foundations, and pharma companies. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure coordinated and timely reporting and donor stewardship.

About you

In addition to previous experience in grants and trusts, and knowledge of the current trust and foundation landscape, you will need excellent project managements skills and the ability to respond quickly and flexibly to manage a wide range of work to meet deadlines.

About the role

The role of Support Group Coordinator is to develop and implement the Myeloma UK Support Group programme in line with the organisation’s overall strategy, building relationships with the Support Group Leaders to strengthen ties with the organisation.

The post holder will be the first point of contact within the organisation for all Support Group enquiries and will have strong leadership and communication skills which are collaborative, and team focused. They will be responsible for working with local groups and other local network partners to increase the reach and impact of Myeloma UK, ensuring that support groups operate in line with quality standards and follow Myeloma UK policies and procedures. This role may require travel across the UK therefore the post holder must be willing to travel and have access to a good transport network.

About You

The Support Group Coordinator will maintain an awareness and understanding of all legislation that may be relevant to the role such as health and safety, general data protection regulation, disclosure checks etc.

Experience in implementing a variety of meetings and events, working with support groups and/or volunteer networks and of increasing the reach, effectiveness and impact of services are essential for this role. You will require to have previous knowledge in project and budget management, partnership working and an understanding of the needs of cancer patients and their families.

About the role

As Senior Policy Officer you will be part of the Patient Advocacy team which makes sure that the voice of myeloma patients counts with decision makers. This role is one of three in the team. All Senior Policy Officers are expected to apply their skills flexibly across key policy areas for myeloma, with this role holding lead responsibility for our work on strengthening the Patient Voice. You will also work with colleagues in communications and fundraising to make sure our supporters and the wider myeloma community understand the positive impact we make.

You will review and analyse policy documents, engage with external stakeholders, draft position papers, reports, and responses to consultations, and will contribute to our work to get to the most effective new myeloma treatments approved on the NHS. As Patient Voice lead you will have special responsibility for working with and stewarding our Advocacy Partner Panel, a group of patients and carers who provide insight and support to our patient advocacy work.

You will have experience of analysing, developing, and communicating complex policy issues, strong communication skills and ability to prioritise a fast moving and wide-ranging workload. Empathy and sensitivity is also needed to work closely with patients and their family and friends. The enhanced CSEP programme will work in close partnership with hospitals to support them in their role to achieve best practice in their care and support of myeloma patients and their families.

The role holder should be educated to degree level with experience in project and process administration and delivering pieces of work to time, budget and standards agreed. You will require to have an understanding of accreditation processes or other quality systems and general health and cancer knowledge, as well as experience of writing reports and giving presentations to different audiences, evidence of building effective relationships to deliver objectives, preparing action plans, business cases and marketing materials.

The role of Peer Programme Co-ordinator is to develop a new peer-to-peer service to provide information and support to anyone affected by myeloma and its related conditions and develop the new volunteer-led service that will sit alongside the current services offered by the Myeloma Information Specialist team. This service will use volunteers to provide bespoke support to people affected by myeloma and its related conditions and work on a referral basis.

The post holder will work with colleagues to ensure close communication and sharing of information across the organisation and report progress regularly to their line manager.

A minimum of one year’s experience of implementing volunteer/user involvement in service delivery, experience of recruiting, training, managing and supervising or mentoring a diverse range of staff or volunteers and experience of working in services which deliver positive outcomes for patients, carers and/or families is essential for this role. You will require an understanding of health and safety principles and practice and an understanding of the challenges that may arise from delivering digital/telephone support.

You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills along with a high level of organisational and IT skills, and the ability to understand and meet training and development needs of volunteers. Previous experience working in haematology, oncology, clinical research or healthcare, together with experience in information delivery over the telephone and in person would be an advantage for this role.

This is a part-time post for 28 hours per week worked over 4 days. The post is currently home based, with hub-based office days.
