The Mental Health Foundation is recruiting for a Senior Policy & Public Affairs Officer (Scotland) to support our Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland teams.

This exciting Senior Policy & Public Affairs Officer (Scotland) role will manage a portfolio of policy and influencing activities and play a significant role developing the Foundation’s policy and public affairs work in Scotland. This is an opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading charities and deliver social change by addressing the root causes of mental health problems and improving the mental health of people in Scotland.

Research Officer

We are recruiting for a Research Officer who will work within the Foundation’s Scotland Research Team to support and lead delivery of evaluation and research projects for partner organisation See Me. This role is a full-time fixed term position until 31st March 2026, for 32 hours per week (reduced from 35 hours per week as part of our adjusted work week pilot).

See Me is Scotland's national programme to end mental health stigma and discrimination. Alongside its role as managing partner of See Me, the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) works in partnership with the programme to deliver its research, learning and evaluation functions. This includes the delivery of research, evaluation and knowledge exchange to inform programme development.

What does the role involve?

• Designing and leading evaluation and research projects across a dynamic programme of work, with the support of a wider team, using mixed method approaches (quantitative and qualitative)

• Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Foundation and with key partners, wider stakeholders and funders.

• Undertaking systematic and pragmatic literature and/or evidence reviews

• Analysing, interpreting and presenting research findings to a wide range of audiences

What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?

· Excellent understanding of the principles of process and impact evaluation design.

· Demonstrable experience of conducting quantitative and qualitative evaluation activities including data collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience of producing clear reports, articles and presentations for a range of audiences.

The Mental Health Foundation is recruiting for a Project Manager to support our Together to Thrive project.

This exciting Project Manager role will lead the implementation of Together to Thrive - a targeted programme for at risk families, children and young people utilising a task sharing model.

Together to Thrive (TTT) is a collaboration between MHF, NHS Tayside CAMHS, Dundee City Council (via the Alliance) and third sector delivery organisations and school referral partners. Funding comes via the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund.

It aims to deliver transformational change in how support is delivered to families. This includes working with community organisations to enhance the provision of support for parents of children (5 to 11) with neuro developmental concerns who are currently on the CAMHS waiting list or identified via schools as having emerging neuro developmental differences. With the overall aim of impact of providing early support and preventing escalation of children onto CAMHS waiting list where not required

Task sharing is an evidence-based model that adapts and redirects support from specialist mental services to community-based settings.

The postholder will draw upon the expertise from within MHF, local families and community partners. This includes NHS Tayside CAMHS, sessional parental advisors, education and community-based organisations. They will build on learning from the first 18-month pilot, which ran until March 24, with the view to build relationships with new partners, identify key areas for future development and opportunities to embed the Together to Thrive model.

Position:

Voices of Experience (VOX) and the Mental Health Foundation are recruiting for a an experienced manager. The post is available on an initial fixed term contract to 31 March 2025. This is a full time post although part time options can be discussed with the successful candidate.

VOX is Scotland’s national collective advocacy organisation for people with lived experience of mental health issues. We are a member led charity, founded in 2006 and hosted by the Mental Health Foundation.

We are looking for an experienced and inspiring Manager to lead our small staff team. Working with our elected Board of Directors, the Manager will have a strategic overview of our work, positioning the organisation as a key partner of Scottish Government and collaborating with other voluntary sector organisations to ensure our members’ voices are heard.

What does the role involve?

  • Providing effective co-ordination of VOX’s Strategy, workplan, budgets and staff team;
  • Ensuring VOX retains its position as the primary national representative organisation for people with lived experience of mental health issues;
  • Liaising with Scottish Government as VOX’s primary funder, ensuring good working relationships with senior civil servants;
  • Supporting and facilitating the work of our elected Board of Directors;
  • Ensuring VOX meets its legal requirements under company and charity law;
  • Increasing the profile, impact and reach of VOX across Scotland; and

Position

The Mental Health Foundation is recruiting for a Senior Research Officer to support our research team in Glasgow. This is available on a full-time or part-time (four days per week) basis as a fixed term post to 31 July 2025.

Starting salary £35,143 rising to £39,000 (pro rata)

This exciting Senior Research Officer role will lead the delivery of a large-scale research and learning initiative – the Barnardo’s Core Priority Programme in Mental Health and Wellbeing – working with a research team to deliver a multi-year evaluation using systems change and co-production as ways to improve mental health and wellbeing services for children and young people.

What does the role involve?

• To lead research, evaluation and learning activities to deliver the strategically significant and large-scale Barnardo’s Mental Health and Wellbeing programme.

• To lead programme evaluation and research activities (primary and secondary) in collaboration with a research team and employ appropriate research methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative and creative methods.

• To disseminate research knowledge through written reports, presentations and other research outputs and facilitating in-person and online learning events.

• To lead the development and delivery of organisational objectives by providing insight from research and evaluation activities and working with internal and external stakeholders to pursue these objectives.

• To work with team members to produce and lead research project plans, including agreed objectives, outcomes and measures, deliverables, and milestones.

• To report back to colleagues, partners and funders on the progress of the programme as required throughout the life of the project, and on conclusion of the project.

• Skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods.

• Evidence of understanding the principles of research design and process and awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of different research methodologies.

• Demonstrable research project management skills.

This is a significant role in supporting the Foundation to achieve the aim of reducing inequalities experienced by refugees and asylum seekers who are at high risk of developing mental health problems or have lived experience of mental health.

The postholder will work with the refugee and asylum seeker communities using the principles of empowerment and co-production to increase access to services and ensure their voices shape Scottish policies, strategies and services. The postholder will also work with key organisations across Scotland so that they can better engage with, involve and work with refugee and asylum seekers.

• Support our existing work and lead on implementing new projects when required.

This exciting Project Assistant role will support the development and delivery of a Mental Health Policy Reference Group of people with lived experience of social inequalities and/or mental health problems. The Mental Health Policy Reference Group will provide a space for people with lived experience to have their voices heard by the Scottish Government on mental health policy. This exciting Research Assistant role will support the delivery of our Thriving Learners Study. Thriving Learners is the largest research study of its kind aiming to build a better understanding of mental health and wellbeing of students in Scotland. This work will lead to recommendations on prevention, early intervention and support of learners’ mental health and wellbeing within higher and further education institutions.

What does the role involve?

  • To support the undertaking of primary research with a focus on quantitative research and the analysis of large data sets.
  • To support research administration including survey dissemination, organising interviews and focus groups and supporting wider governance structures.
  • To support the dissemination of research knowledge through contributing to sections of written reports and journal papers. In addition, supporting the organisation and running of face to face and online learning events.

· To plan, prepare and facilitate VOX members’ meetings and discussion groups.

We are looking for an individual who has a wide-ranging understanding of human rights, social justice issues and the inequalities encountered by those who have experienced mental health problems/distress. Also an individual with exceptional skills and breadth of experience of working alongside people with lived experience of mental distress. The role will require the ability to engage effectively with the Scottish Policy, Service and Practice environments.

This exciting Research Assistant role will support the delivery of large-scale research and learning programmes, primarily the Barnardo’s Mental Health and Wellbeing evaluation programme, work with the wider research team on a range of research programmes and enhance dissemination of research and knowledge by facilitating learning events using online platforms and technologies.

What does the role involve?

· To support the undertaking of research, evaluation and learning activities that support the delivery of a range of large-scale mental health programmes, including the Barnardo’s Health and Wellbeing evaluation.

· To support the undertaking of evaluation and research activities (primary and secondary) with the research team and employ appropriate research methodologies.

· To support the dissemination of research knowledge through contributing to sections of written reports and materials and carrying out administrative activities related to face-to-face and online learning events.

· To assist development and delivery of organisational objectives by providing insight from research and evaluation and working with internal and external stakeholders to pursue these objectives.

· To work with team members to contribute to the production of research project plans, including agreed objectives, outcomes and measures, deliverables, and milestones, and leading on smaller sections of project plans as appropriate.

· To assist in reporting back to partners and funders on progress of projects as required throughout the life of the project, and on conclusion of the project.

What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?

· Demonstrable experience of conducting research and evaluation including using mixed methods of data collection and analysis.

· Evidenced successful strong written communication skills with experience of producing clear reports and articles for a range of audiences

· Demonstrable understanding of the principles of research and evaluation design.

· Demonstrable understanding of the impact of inequalities and adversity on mental health and wellbeing.
