The Strath Union Trustee Board is the ultimate legal decision-making body for the organisation, directing all the charity does, ensuring that it is financially sustainable and delivers against its core purpose of connecting students so everyone can thrive. The University has recently launched its 2030 strategy and working with our new Chief Executive you will directly support the development of Strath Union’s new strategic plan that will look to the next 5 years of growth and development.

Previous board experience is not a pre-requisite for this role, and we are focused on identifying new board members who are committed to our mission and organisational values. However, to complement the existing skills of our board members we want candidates who bring experience in one or more of the following areas of expertise:

· Governance, Risk or Compliance

· Public Affairs, Policy, or Public Relations

· IT and Digital Transformation

· Higher Education or the Voluntary sector

Would you like to come and work for the number one Student Union in Scotland as voted in the recent Whatuni Student Choice awards? We are looking for a Student Opportunities Manager on a fixed term basis to 31st July 2024 to cover a period of maternity leave.

The Student Opportunities Manager is responsible for energising student engagement and participation with student activities at Strathclyde Students’ Union. This includes overseeing and developing student societies and widening access groups, and growing student opportunities in volunteering, employment, and entrepreneurship. We are currently finalising our brand-new Union, a state-of-the-art facility at the heart of the campus and a key component of a world leading student experience at the University of Strathclyde.

We are excited to recruit a new Trustee to join our Board at this pivotal moment for the organisation. The Union strives to enhance the Strathclyde experience by promoting, representing and supporting students interests and welfare. Our diverse social, cultural and sporting opportunities offer all students the chance to thrive. We are dedicated to representing all 24,000 students at the University of Strathclyde. We ensure they are fairly represented and lobby on key issues to bring them to the attention of the University. Additionally, we run a range of commercial services from bars and coffee shops to merchandise and advertising.

We are currently seeking a board member with commercial expertise and finance skills. You should also have one or more skills in the following areas:

  • Experience of strategic leadership
  • Experience of financial management
  • Experience of business and commerce
  • Previous experience as a Trustee or other non-executive role

As a Trustee we will provide:

  • Induction, training and reimburse all reasonable expenses
  • Opportunities to make strategic decisions and develop your skills
  • Opportunities to network with senior professionals
  • Shape and improve the experience of Strathclyde students

The expected commitment is approximately one day per month and this would constitute up to six board meetings per annum (including at least one away day).

There are also sub-committees of the Board, including Finance, Audit and Risk, HR & Culture, Remuneration and Nominations committees. In addition, there may be other ad-hoc elements where trustees can be involved, including short-life working groups, playing an ambassadorial role and attending functions and events in their capacity as a Trustee.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator

Strath Union are looking for a Mental Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator. This is a non-clinical role which will lead the development and delivery of a positive and proactive mental health and wellbeing strategy for students on behalf of Strathclyde Students’ Union (Strath Union) with a focus on our strategic priority of building a resilient student community. Intersectionality will be at the heart of all activity as well as an understanding of the student populations at Strathclyde. The role will work closely with the Vice President Welfare to define areas of focus for campaigning and activity, but will also be self-directed in terms of identify areas of opportunity for growth and innovation around mental health and wellbeing for students living both on and off campus.
